You’d be surprised probably that a simple amendment that lowers the voting age would start so much crap in the beginning of the process.
Section 1.The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Before it was a Constitutional Right, Nixon and Congress made it a law. Then a few states took the law to court, reasoning being 10th Amendment grounds maybe? During all this, the country was in the Vietnam War(or in today’s terms a “kinetic operation”) and a lot of 18 year olds and up didn’t like the fact that the politicians who could draft (enslave) and send them to war, and they couldn’t even vote for who was sending them overseas. Tired of states fighting the unconstitutionality of the law, they pushed for an amendment and got it. If your 18, you can vote in both Federal and Local elections. No one can stop you legally.
Remember that just societies have a check and balance system. Government makes laws which are enforced by the cops. Laws are just words on paper, you don’t have to follow them, which is why we have cops. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are the laws that keep the Federal Government in check BUT it’s just words on paper unless enforced by someone. Guess who that is? WE THE PEOPLE, and we are failing miserable due to apathy and complacency. A little monetary or physical security in exchange for freedom and liberty. Not for this wolf, I’m not one of the flock, I’m above it and have taken it upon myself to snap you from your slumber, remove your blindfolds and show you how IT IS!
The last essay on the Bill of Rights to follow on the Twenty-Seventh Amendment. Stay tuned for it next week.
