It’s a dark night, the stars the only light highlighting the graveyard. Wait. There is another light, shining on a tombstone. The silence shattered as a shovel strikes the dirt. Repeatedly, the mound of dirt grows beside the grave, then the sound of a crowbar opening the casket. Then a furtive shadow creeps away into the dark with its ill-gotten gains. Upon observation we find the deceased without its gold teeth and silver jewelry. Someone just robbed the dead. If caught you will go to jail. Unless…you’re the government.
In America we have the Estate Tax, more appropriately called the “Death Tax“. At the moment it’s not in effect, but next year it kicks in gear for 55%. I don’t care how much you make, nobody is entitled to your savings after you die. Money that the deceased has paid taxes on. This is the equivalent of robbing from the dead, any way you slice it. Right now Congress is debating this issue. Settle for nothing over 0% taxation. No matter how small the amount, it’s robbery. A petty thief to Bernie Madoff is still a thief, no matter the amount. Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate or House office you request. If you don’t know who that is, shame on you. Your part of the problem in this country.
