What Does God Trust You With?

Has anyone trusted you with anything? The greater the value it has to them, the more humbling that trust is. How do you get that trust?

You earn it.

First, with the small things, and then with larger. It’s a biblical principle; if you are faithful to a little, then you can be trusted to be faithful to a lot.

The thing about gaining trust is that it takes time. It’s hard to gain and can be easily lost. Then it’s much harder to gain back.

You may never get it back.

Think about how this pertains to God.

What Has God Trusted You With?

As Creator, everything you have is His. He’s just letting you use it. God entrusts you with it.

Your job? He has you there for a reason, probably multiple ones.

Your belongings? You have them because He trusts you to use them for His kingdom.

Consider The People In Your Life.

Now it’s about to get serious.

Your spouse? They are one of God’s handcrafted creations that Jesus went to the cross for. How are you treating them?

Children? God is entrusting you with shaping the future. Jesus said about them in Matthew 18:6, “If anyone causes one of these little ones–those who believe in me–to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

You guys, my readers? James 3:1 lets me know that I will be judged more strictly because I teach you. I had to wrestle with that for months before I began to use my site to teach. Because God takes it seriously, I have to take it seriously.

GriefShare? For half a year I am allowed to work on an awesome team that helps patch up the grieving who have a hole in their lives. We comfort as we’ve been comforted (2 Corinthians 1:4).

The homeless and poverty-stricken? Another team I’m on feeds them, gives companionship, and loves on those most ignore. Showing them the love of God.

It’s scary, humbling, and amazing all at the same time. Scary in that I have to care for these precious things of God’s. Humbling that He trusts me to actually do it despite my failings. Amazing that He allows me to do it.

I want you to make a list of the things God’s entrusted you with. Look at it, and think about what it means. Let me know in the comments.

  1. This is such a hard question for me! God has certainly trusted me with my Husband, as well as a number of friendships. I’m learning (slowly) that God also trusts us with small day-to-day moments and interactions.

I spent one evening years ago with two acquaintances who were a God-send to my life for that particular evening. Our friendship never truly flourished there after and was non-existent before. But for that day, they loved on and had fun and poured into my heart EXACTLY when I needed it. I don’t I’ve ever been used so profoundly, but know there have been times/experiences where I’ve connected and loved-on (what a Christianese word) a person, often against my natural inclination, for a short season.

We are taught so frequently that “EVERY Soul Matters to God” and as a result, Every Soul should matter to us. That includes the Soul of our servers or cashiers when we shop, and of our coworkers, or someone we meet over a quick coffee in a cafe. Many of these interactions come and go with little eternal impact, but how many might be used of God if we would Steward them well and be open and externally focused in our day-to-day lives?

What are your thoughts about this?
