A Voice For Washington D.C's Citizens; The 23rd Amendment

Until the 1960’s, in a Presidential election, those who lived in Washington D.C couldn’t vote for President in the Electoral College. This Amendment changed that:

Section 1.The District constituting the seat of Government of the United States shall appoint in such manner as the Congress may direct:

A number of electors of President and Vice President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress to which the District would be entitled if it were a State, but in no event more than the least populous State; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the States, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of President and Vice President, to be electors appointed by a State; and they shall meet in the District and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment.

Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

D.C isn’t a state, so to give them the right amount electors they used the formula that the Founders laid out in the Constitution. A amount of people=a certain number of Senators and Representatives and Electoral Votes. That’s why we have the census.

The State with the least people is the threshold for the number of electors in D.C. Their has been a move to give voice in Congressional elections to D.C as the Amendment didn’t do  that. This idea I like, but it has to be a constitutional amendment, not a law. It is “We The People” after all.

Remember that just societies have a  check and balance system. Government makes laws which are enforced by the cops. Laws are just words on paper, you don’t have to follow them, which is why we have cops. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are the laws that keep the Federal Government in check BUT it’s just words on paper unless enforced by someone. Guess who that is? WE THE PEOPLE, and we are failing miserable due to apathy and complacency. A little monetary or physical security in exchange for freedom and liberty. Not for this wolf, I’m not one of the flock, I’m above it and have taken it upon myself to snap you from your slumber, remove your blindfolds and show you how IT IS!

Another essay to follow on the Twenty-Fourth Amendment. Stay tuned for it next week.
